Video interview with Maciej Kaplan from GreenIron (Sweden) on how ZHyRON is transforming iron-rich steel by-products into valuable resources through hydrogen-based reduction.

ZHyRON has released the third episode of its From Waste to Value video interview series, featuring Maciej Kaplan from GreenIron, Sweden.

In this episode, Maciej explains GreenIron’s role in the project, which focuses on reducing iron-rich and zinc-containing steelmaking by-products using hydrogen. Through its modular bell furnace technology, GreenIron removes oxygen from industrial residues and converts them into valuable outputs such as metallic iron, while supporting the separation of zinc and other secondary materials.

A key strength of the GreenIron process is its flexibility. As a batch-based and modular system, the technology can treat different input materials from cycle to cycle and scale capacity by increasing the number of furnace units. This makes it particularly suitable for handling diverse industrial by-product streams.

GreenIron’s contribution is central to ZHyRON’s ambition to demonstrate practical circular solutions for the steel sector, showing how waste materials can be recovered, upgraded, and reintroduced into industrial value chains.
