A communication initiative of the ZHyRON project, combining text, graphics, data visualisation and archival images to show the close link between European integration and the steel industry.

Launched within the EU-funded ZHyRON project, #EUSteelInTime is a communication initiative that illustrates how the history of European integration is closely connected to the development of the steel industry.

Using storytelling, historical documents, archival images, and data visualisations, the project retraces the journey from the founding of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1951 to today’s challenges of decarbonisation and global competition.

The campaign was first released in episodes on LinkedIn and has now been collected in a final publication, available at this link: #EUSteelinTime Final Publication

The initiative highlights how coal and steel were not only the economic backbone of post-war reconstruction, but also the starting point of a shared European vision. Today, that legacy continues in projects like ZHyRON, which applies green hydrogen technologies to recover materials, cut emissions, and build a more sustainable and competitive future for Europe’s steel sector.
