Last week, the General Assembly of the ZHyRON project convened in Liege, hosted by CRM and JGI-Hydrometal. The meeting marked the sixth month of progress since the project’s inception, with consortium partners presenting their advancements.

Jose Luis Garcia Cimadevilla, the project’s Technical Coordinator, deemed the meeting as “successful and highly productive.” He highlighted the timely submission of current deliverables, the absence of delays, and the effective teamwork that has ensured all planned work is under control.

A significant topic discussed was the establishment of demonstrator sites. At this stage, three sites are planned in Sweden, Belgium, and Germany. The Belgian site will focus on extracting high-quality zinc from by-products, the Swedish site will demonstrate hydrogen-based recycling of zinc-rich by-products, and the German site will test the wastewater process.

Francisco Javier Real Salas from CIRCE, the project’s coordinator, attributed the meeting’s success to the excellent organization by CRM and JGI-Hydrometal “thanks to the remarkable organization of CRM and JGI-Hydrometal hosts, the ZHyRON consortium was able to work on the project developments while enjoying the premises in which one of the demonstrators of the project will take place”.

The CRM Group presented to the partners the recent Engis site (Belgium) which is equipped with a laboratory allowing the study of cold agglomeration with control of the risks linked to dust and the versatile electric furnace which has the possibility of operate with plasma mode.

The next assembly is scheduled in six months, for the end of the project’s first year.
