On 17–18 September 2025, the ZHYRON consortium met in Sandviken, Sweden, for its First Review Meeting with the European Commission. All milestones were achieved, showcasing progress on hydrogen reduction modelling, by-product use, and wastewater treatment innovations.
On 17–18 September 2025, the ZHYRON consortium held its First Review Meeting at GreenIron’s premises in Sandviken, Sweden. Partners came together with representatives from the European Commission and independent reviewers to present results from the first reporting period and align on next steps.
The project, funded under the European Union, is advancing innovations in the circular use of steelmaking by-products. Key achievements include defining project KPIs, characterization of by-products, optimization of cold agglomeration, development of multiphysics models for hydrogen reduction, and progress in wastewater treatment with the commissioning and testing of Vacuum Membrane Distillation (VMD).
As a matter of fact, the Commission commended the consortium for meeting all milestones, while reviewers provided constructive feedback for future work. The meeting also featured a site visit to GreenIron’s facilities, offering participants a firsthand look at technologies under development.
